The Impact of Postnatal Depression on Children
This article summarizes a recent study conducted by Lynne Murray and colleagues on how a mother’s postnatal depression can impact her children throughout their childhood. The study was published in the May 2011 issue of the Journal of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (JAACAP).
Through the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry you can sign up for a free guest subscription, which allows the subscriber free access to all abstracts and access to certain complete articles. Through this site you are also able to purchase a subscription, which gives you full access to all journal articles. Or, you can buy articles of interest individually, for a very reasonable price.
After reading any journal article, you can receive CE credits through PCES by completing a short review of the article you read. Remember you can sign-up for the journal review now, and then complete it at your leisure.

Psychological First Aid
Psychological First Aid is an evidence-informed modular approach to help children, adolescents, adults, and families in the immediate aftermath of disaster and terrorism. Psychological First Aid is designed to reduce the initial distress caused by traumatic events and to foster short- and long-term adaptive functioning and coping. Psychological First Aid fills in the gaps that you might find when called in to do a Critical Incident Debriefing. Click here to view an excellent Psychological First Aid Manual created by the National Child Traumatic Stress Network and the National Center for PTSD.

CISM Clearinghouse
Yesterday I came across an excellent site that functions as a CISM clearinghouse. In addition to collecting worldwide resources, they are developing a directory of onsite specialists. There has never been a database of trained, experienced CISM providers where one can access their contact information for free. They provide this and are working on recruiting specialists to join their directory. If you are a CISM provider or need someone who is an expert in crisis debriefing, this site is worth checking out.

To learn more about Native American Heritage Month and the 5 Annual Red Nation Film Festival being held in Los Angeles on Nov 3-9th, click here. The festival is dedicated to breaking the barriers of racism and to replacing detrimental stereotypes.
